Portobello Road overbridge, Edinburgh

Portobello Road overbridge, Edinburgh

We're investing £1.5 million in upgrading the bridge over the East Coast main line on Portobello Road in Edinburgh.

Network Rail will invest £1.5 million in upgrading the bridge over the railway on Portobello Road at Craigentinny Avenue from mid-August until mid-November.

The bridge will be strengthened with repairs to the masonry, concrete and steelwork, replacement of missing stonework and repainting. There will also be parapet height extensions and raised kerbs on the roadside, to increase safety for pedestrians.

To enable this work to be delivered, a single lane road closure with 3-way traffic light control will be in place for the entire three-month project. This will impact traffic on Craigentinny Avenue, Portobello Road Restalrig Avenue and Piersfield Terrace.

As well as the traffic management, to allow engineers to safely access the bridge a site compound will be located near the bridge at Piersfield Terrace, which will use eight public parking spaces for the duration of the project.

There will be two weekends in September where some rail services will be disrupted to enable this (and other engineering work) to take place. Further information is available from National Rail Enquiries.
