Glasgow's Shields Road - November 2023 Update

The work programme to replace and strengthen the bridge at Shields Road, on Glasgow’s southside, is progressing well.

Our teams on site are making really good progress, with the installation of the temporary bridge which will carry utility cables and pipes, as well as pedestrians, over the railway when the bridge deck is removed next year. The ramps connecting the bridge to the existing footway are now being put in place. Once all utilities and services have been diverted onto the temporary bridge, it will open to pedestrians and cyclists who dismount.

Behind the scenes, contractors have been carrying out some preparatory work to the brickwork abutments underneath the bridge, as well as clearing vegetation so the foundations could be prepared.

The next stage of the work will be to finish installing utilities, services and cables within the temporary bridge, and prepare it for opening to those walking or wheeling, and for cyclists who dismount. The temporary bridge will remain in place until the completion of the project in August 2024.
